If you don't have the technical knowledge - or the time and energy - to write your own HTML+CSS+JavaScript document template and would like to get a superbly formatted document in one click and start immediately typing in BlueGriffon, this add-on is made for you.

It downloads from our site a list of free online templates that we maintain and will of course expand over time. At the time of the release of version 1.0 of this add-on, 458 free templates are available through this add-on ! No doubt you'll find one matching your wishes or needs in the list.

You can see a preview of each template (if one is available), a live demo of each template (if one is available) and install in a single click a template in your filesystem. You can also easily and instantly search through the available templates.

Two things:

the World Wide Web Consortium is considering "adoption" of BlueGriffon for internal use. But since the W3C uses HTTP PUT, WebDav and CVS to publish their documents, they needed an add-on to PUT their documents on w3.org. I wrote that add-on in a few hours and donated a perpetual site license for that add-on to all W3C staff. Let me know if you're interested. The add-on allows to PUT a document and all local linked resources (stylesheets, replaced elements; will deal with imported stylesheets and webfonts in a next version); it rewrites the URIs for these resources as needed to make sure the published version renders ok.

BlueGriffon 1.4 in Hungarian

I am extremely happy to report that thanks to Gabor Kelemen, we now have a Hungarian language pack for BlueGriffon 1.4. First L10N contribution to this project, not a single bug, not a single issue, 100% completion. Wow. Thanks a lot Gabor !

To install the hungarian language pack (or any of BlueGriffon 1.4 language packs):

right-click on this link to download and save the package on your local disk
in BlueGriffon, select Tools > Add-ons to open the Add-ons manager
click on the Languages tab
use the wheel button at the top of the window to "Install from file" the package you downloaded at step 1
click OK after the delay and restart BlueGriffon
open the Preferences panel
switch to the Advanced tab
select "Use installed locale"
select "hu (Hungarian)"
click on the "Use language" button

The text-align buttons of the format toolbar in v1.3 were horked, and that was a big enough regression to make me release a fix as soon as possible. Version 1.3.1 is available immediately from the usual page. Many thanks to Charles Cooke and Pascal Myrta for the heads up.

BlueGriffon EPUB Edition

Our wysiwyg HTML/CSS/SVG/MathML editor Bluegriffon will have a sibling!

Our company Disruptive Innovations together with friend Innovimax will release in a near future a new native EPUB wysiwyg editor on the market, BlueGriffon EPUB Edition. It will be commercial, standalone (ie not a webapp), based on the open-source BlueGriffon. Unlike most existing solutions on the market, it will not rely on a private pivot format. While most other tools can only do "Export to EPUB", BlueGriffon EPUB Edition will open EPUBs, create EPUBs, save EPUBs. Do whatever you want with the metadata or the contents. Add, modify or remove documents, images, stylesheets, media files, fonts, everything. It will be simple, powerful, and strictly conformant to W3C and IDPF standards.

As you can judge from the screenshot below, we're moving fast... Stay tuned!

Because of a bug severely affecting the CSS Pro Editor add-on on Linux, I will probably release a 1.1.1 with a workaround. I have found a way to make <panel noautohide="true> panels at least reponsive on Linux even if they become modal. I know, I know, panels should not be modal, but compared to a severe loss of functionality, that's a rather good compromise.

CSS Pro Editor add-on

I'm almost done with the CSS Pro Editor add-on. It will be sent to Platinum Offer Subscribers on monday, if everything goes well in the mean time.

Important note: BlueGriffon 1.0 has a bug related to the serialization of stylesheets when a @charset rule is present at the beginning of the stylesheet and that bug also affects the CSS Pro Editor add-on. This bug will be fixed in BlueGriffon 1.1.

Back in july 2003, when Netscape collapsed, I decided to start my company Disruptive Innovations to write and distribute my/our own software. I never really dreamt of working for others as a contractor. But when Linspire's sponsoring ended and given the cost of employment here, the only survival choice was to look for contracts. It took me a looong time to find an investor to back us but that quest eventually ended positively.

In the near future, the collection of add-ons available will grow. A CSS Pro Editor is on track, and trust me, it will be the best on the market. I am also working on a CSS Optimizer or at least an add-on able to list all the performance or maintainability hits in the stylesheets attached to a document. A Project Manager and a Template Manager are also on the radar, almost done. The Template Manager will allow to create a new document based on online free templates in one single click. No need to search for templates on the interweb if you don't have time for that, we'll do it for you, feeding you a list of freely available sources. And there are even cooler ideas in the works. Stay tuned !

I would like to thank first my investor, AGB Ventures, who believed in the project and supported it heavily.
